About the Journal

African Journal of Basic & Translational Clinical Sciences (AJBTCS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access Semi-annual (published twice a year, in July and January) scholarly journal of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos. The journal is dedicated to advancing knowledge across the continuum in the various fields of medicine and health including basic biomedical science, translational research, and clinical practice, with a strong emphasis on research relevant to Africa and other low- and middle-income settings.

The journal provides a platform for the dissemination of high-quality, methodologically sound research that underpins clinical care and promotes the translation of scientific discoveries into practical applications in diagnostics, therapeutics, and health systems improvement. The journal publishes original research articles, systematic reviews, case reports, commentaries and short communications in areas including basic biomedical sciences, foundational clinical sciences, translational and preclinical research, molecular and clinical laboratory diagnostic sciences, epidemiology, and implementation research. Educational research in basic clinical sciences is also featured, particularly where it informs teaching, assessment, and curriculum development.

The journal is committed to editorial independence, rigorous peer review, and adherence to international ethical standards in publishing. The journal operates a fully open-access model, ensuring that all published content is freely available without subscription barriers, thereby supporting the global exchange of knowledge and equitable access to scientific information.

While maintaining an international outlook, the journal prioritizes research addressing regionally relevant health challenges, encouraging contributions that strengthen research capacity, inform policy, and enhance evidence-based clinical practice in Africa. Manuscripts are expected to clearly articulate their clinical relevance or translational implications, aligning with the journal’s mission to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and improved health outcomes.
